"Handong" (Hangul:한동; Chinese:韓東; Japanese: ハンドン) is a Chinese singer under Dreamcatcher Company and Catfish Entertainment. She is also a member of the K-Pop girl group Dreamcatcher.
She made her solo debut in China on October 20, 2020 with the Digital Single "First Light of Dawn".
Career[]
Pre-debut[]
She was born in Wuhan, China, on March 26, 1996.
Handong performed for a high school musical called Les Miserables, during this time she took lessons in opera and acting.
Her professor advised her to audition in Korea. After finishing high school, she moved to South Korea and studied at Sejeong University in 2015.
She auditioned with Taeyeon's "If" and signed under HappyFace Entertaiment, in mid-2016.
2017: Debut with Dreamcatcher[]
On 2017, Handong was revealed as the sixth and new member of Dreamcatcher along with Gahyun, later, on January 13, 2017 the group officially debuted with their first single album Nightmare.
On October 2017 she was confirmed as a contestant of the survival reality show MIXNINE with the other members of Dreamcatcher, but was eliminated in the audition.
2018: Latin America Tour[]
During the Latin American tour "WELCOME TO THE DREAM WORLD IN LATIN AMERICA", on 2018, Handong's grandfather passed away, her parents did not tell her so as not to interfere with her work. At the end of the tour, she traveled to China to reunite with her family so she was not present in some presentations along with the group during this time.
2019: Absence from the group[]
On August 30, 2019, Dreamcatcher company, Happyface Entertainment, announced that Handong would be absent from the Dreamcatcher European Tour Invitation from Nightmare City. [1] [2]
On October 14, 2019, Handong opened an individual Weibo account. [3]
Fans speculated that Handong would participate in Idol Producer's new season.
On the same day, Handong was announced as a contestant for Youth With You 2 (Idol Producer) through fragments of her audition that were published in her Weibo account.
2020: Youth With You 2 (Idol Producer), Solo Debut[]
On February 4, 2020, Dreamcatcher Company, Happyface Entertainment, posted a notice through the group's official fancafe announcing that Handong will be unable to participate in promotions for Dreamcatcher's first full-length Korean album Dystopia: The Tree Of Language due to her participation in Youth With You 2 (Idol Producer) and her very tight schedule. Because of this, a masked dancer [6] replaced Handong in the official performance of the album's title song, Scream, but not in the other promoted songs of the album. [7]
Handong was eliminated in EP. 16 of Youth With You 2 aired on May 1, 2020, ranking 56th. [8]
A day later she posted on Dreamcatcher's official Twitter that she was already resting at home and would soon be back with Dreamcatcher. [9]
Solo debut with "First Light of Dawn"[]
On October 17th Handong's Chinese management, Catfish Entertainment, announced she would be making her solo debut on October 20th with the Chinese digital single First Light of Dawn.[10]
